Main Components of a Budget

A budget report mainly consists of three important components:

  1. Receipts: Revenue received by the state through taxes (GST, land tax, tax on liquor, lottery, etc.) and non-tax sources. The Central Government’s share is also included in this category.
  2. Expenditure: The amount allocated for infrastructure development (roads, bridges), education, healthcare, welfare pensions, salaries of government employees, pensions, and other government expenses.
  3. Fiscal Deficit: The financial gap that arises when the government’s total expenditure exceeds its total revenue, along with the borrowings undertaken by the government to meet this deficit.
